A Vestibular Schwannoma, also known as an Acoustic Neuroma is a slow growing, non- cancerous (or benign) tumour in the vestibular nerve which provides information on head movement and hearing.

The most common symptoms experienced by individuals with Vestibular Schwannoma are related to hearing

  • Hearing loss

• • Tinnitus (ringing in the ear)

• • Feeling of fullness in the ear.

As the tumour grows, it may also cause imbalance or dizziness.

There are several different treatment options available for Vestibular Schwannoma. These include “wait and watch” conservative management, surgical removal and radiotherapy.

If you have noted deterioration in your hearing in one ear and/or associated imbalance or dizziness – it is important to go and see your GP and start getting this investigated.
